Heliski - Monterosa

Monte Rosa Heli Ski Packages

Visit five top European ski resorts on one tour.

The Alps bordering Italy and Switzerland are among the most dramatic in the world, but you do not have to be an expert to ski in the midst of them.

Our Heli Ski trip will take you to Col del Lys (4,200m) from where you descend to Zermatt on the Grenz Glacier, overlooked by the awesome Lyskamm, Castore and Dufour peaks.  The high altitude glacial terrain of the Monterosa and Matterhorn ski area, offers exceptionally long and varied descents in dramatic scenery.  The excellent snow and the incredible panoramas make for a breathtaking journey.

From Zermatt a unique cable car reaches the Piccolo Cervino (Klein Matterhorn), from where the descent back to Champoluc is through the gentle sweeping Cime Bianche Valley.

Few outsiders penetrate into the hidden valleys between these famous Alpine resorts, but guided, this route is within reach of most competent skiers with stamina, even with limited off piste experience.  It is the kind of mountain adventure however, that even accomplished skiers rarely have the opportunity to experience.

Points of interest:

  • The Gorner Glacier on the Monterosa Massif is a valley glacier extending from Col Del Lys almost as far as Zermatt.  It is about 14 km long and 1km to 1.5 km wide. The area of the glacier is 68 km², which makes it the second largest glacial system in the Alps, after the Aletsch.
  • At 3,820m the Klein Matterhorn lift is the highest cable car in the world.  Stepping out of a tunnel blasted through the rock, one comes into a vast white glacial world. The 360° views over Switzerland, Italy, and even to distant France are quite magnificent.

Alagna and Zermatt have extensive off-piste terrain with large and seldom skied fields of untouched snow. Thanks to the high altitude and abundance of north facing slopes, powder snow can still be found many days after the last fall...  In spring especially, huge areas of both safe powder and spring snow can be found off piste.
