Courmayeur - Guide

Courmayeur Resort Guide

Courmayeur offers a good range of pisted runs, easily accessible off piste itineraries, fabulous cross country ski routes, pleasant walking, superb mountain restaurants and a wide range of sporting and other leisure activities.

It is the perfect resort for mixed groups and families.  All levels of skier and boarder are fully catered for, and there are numerous excellent mountain bars and restaurants to meet up in.

There are carpet lifts and play areas for the children, long, interesting blue runs, and plenty of more challenging reds.  Reasonable intermediates with a little experience can try the Vallee Blanche – the most famous off piste descent in the world.

The advanced skier and boarder has some long testing runs, mogul fields and superb off piste and heli skiing potential, all with breath taking views of the highest mountain in Western Europe.

The extensive La Thuile ski area is covered on the Courmayeur lift pass and is easily reached by local ski bus.  To add an extra dimension to your skiing, upgrade your lift pass to either the Valle d’Aosta pass which covers all the resorts in the Aosta Valley, or the Mont Blanc Unlimited pass, which covers all the lifts in Courmayeur and the Chamonix Valley.

Courmayeur offers a wide range of holiday accommodation options with some excellent hotels in the outlying historic hamlets of Dolonne and Entreves (served by their own cable cars), as well as in central Courmayeur.

Entreves is a delightful hamlet approximately 3km from central Courmayeur, in a spectacular valley at the foot of Mont Blanc.  Entrèves is served by its own cable car that arrives in the Pre de Pascal region of the Courmayeur ski area. It is also convenient for the scenic Monte Bianco cable car, the starting point for the famous Vallee Blanche off piste descent, and is an ideal spot from which to visit the Val Ferret for walking or cross country skiing.

During the day the hamlet is well served by public transport and our hotels also offer complementary mini bus services.

Dolonne is a small historic hamlet situated just over a kilometre from central Courmayeur. It is an ideal spot for families and beginners, as there is a spacious area close to the village centre with moving carpet lifts and a children’s playground.

The new gondola from Dolonne arrives in Plan Checrouit, the main starting point for the Courmayeur ski school.

The Courmayeur sports centre is also situated in Dolonne, and features a large ice skating rink and gym, as well as other sporting facilities.
Public transport into central Courmayeur is excellent during the day.

The thermal baths in Pre St Didier are not to be missed. Situated just 3km from Courmayeur, they offer a range of indoor and outdoor spa pools and treatments in unique surroundings with views towards Mont Blanc.

The Courmayeur Sports Centre is in Dolonne.  There are many facilities including a full size indoor ice skating rink, a climbing wall and gym.
Cross country skiers have at least 35km of wonderful scenic trails in the Val Ferret.

Courmayeur’s modern lift system is capable of carrying 8,400 people uphill per hour and there are approximately 100km of piste with some excellent long runs.
The Vallee Blanche off piste descent at 20km, is the longest run in the area.

With 70% of the pistes covered by snow cannons – all season skiing is virtually guaranteed!
