The three principal resorts of the Monterosa ski area are Champoluc, Gressoney and Alagna - all unspoiled Alpine villages with distinct Italian character.
In three separate valleys, the villages are connected by a modern lift system which covers some 180km of piste.
Surrounded by the awesome peaks of the Monterosa chain, the environment is natural and unspoiled with minimal resort development.
The Monterosa area is an intermediate's paradise with numerous long, exhilarating red runs, and though Italian skiers arrive for the weekends and peak holiday periods, for the most part, skiing is on amazingly quiet pistes.
Champoluc is the most suitable of the resorts for beginners and families and offers a good beginner's area at the top of the Crest Gondola.
Holiday accommodation is of a high standard with many excellent, family run hotels.
Champoluc and Gressoney though quiet, offer a number of informal bars, restaurants and pizzerias, and there are also plenty of good places to meet and eat on the mountain.
